What a special opportunity to have my abstracts help dress up two transformed Bargain Mansions in Kansas City!
A big thanks to Leopold Gallery, who represents me in Kansas City. They let Tamara Day, host of Bargain Mansions, select artworks that she wanted to use as finishing touches to her transformed homes. My work, along with two others artists’ artwork from Leopold Gallery were chosen.
Tamara Day, is the host, designer, visionary, and renovation helper in the Bargain Mansions series. Day purchased worn down huge houses at bargain prices, in the Kansas City, MO area. She saw amazing restoration possibilities in each one and brought them to life.
Day loves to get in on the action of removing walls, tearing out cabinets, and helping refinish treasured antique parts in these old homes. I so identify with her in the ‘hammer and saw’ activities. As a youngster, creating and building things were a common happening for me. Later, as a home owner, I have torn out my fair share of walls, put up studs, dry walled, and tiled.
Way back then I never would have imagined that one day I would be doing abstracts that would enhance old transformed ‘mansions’ on a DIY Network TV series!
My paintings were part of the finishing touches in the Charlotte House and the Warwick House in Kansas City. Here are a few examples of my abstracts in these houses.
The New York Times (Sep 20,2107) even featured an article on Tamara Day’s Bargain mansions. They also did a slideshow of several rooms in one of her transformed houses, that includes the image above of “Just Chillin'”.
Day restored six mansion in ten months! The series is entertaining, enlightening, and engaging.
If you would like to catch these fun transformations, below are the TV stations that air this series on Wednesday evenings 9pm CST. The pilot series will re-air, so there’s more opportunity to see them.
